Halloween is a super fun and exciting time for children, but as a parent or caretaker, you may be concerned about making sure your child is safe. Don’t worry – Freedom Urgent Care has put together a list of things you can do to make sure that your child’s Halloween is all treats and no tricks!
- Make sure they’re wearing comfortable shoes.
Your child may want to wear shoes that match their costume (or maybe even no shoes), but comfortable shoes is an absolute MUST for Halloween. The length of your Halloween route probably depends on where you live, and on your child’s energy level, but whether they plan on walking ten minutes or two miles, good shoes will keep them from getting blisters and sore feet. And if you’re walking with them, it’s good advice for you too. - Double-check the makeup and face-paint before you put it on them.
If you get face-paint or makeup from a costume store, you might automatically assume it’s safe for your children. However, you should always be careful in case the makeup triggers an allergy or irritates the skin. Before decorating your child’s face, try using a small amount on their arm or leg to make sure there is no negative reaction. Doing this can help prevent a lot of discomfort or even pain should the makeup have allergens or toxins. - Don’t let your child wear a mask they can’t see through.
If your child wears a costume that has a mask, always be sure that they can completely see out of it. If their vision isn’t completely clear, then it increases the risk of them being hurt by tripping over something, or running into someone, or walking where they shouldn’t. By having them try on the mask before the big day, you’ll be certain that its safe, or have time to get a replacement for it.
